NATIONAL HISTORY

Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. was founded at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill by seven diverse womxn who sought to create an inclusive sisterhood. The Founders chose to transcend traditional boundaries with the creation of a new Greek-letter organization that would embody the ideals of scholarship, service, sisterhood, leadership, and multiculturalism. Despite being met with significant concerns about the viability of such an organization, the Founders held strong to their beliefs and pushed forward in creating the Sorority. Through their commitment and dedication, the dream of founding Theta Nu Xi came to fruition on April 11, 1997.

Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. holds firm to the mission and values on which we were founded, with an eye to our continued growth and success in the future. Our chapters are thriving on campuses and in communities across the country, and they often receive recognition for outstanding members, programs, and service to their communities. Each year, our chapters grant thousands of dollars in scholarships and philanthropic giving and provide thousands of more hours of service to causes as diverse as our membership. Leadership continues to be a way of life for our members, who can be found in professions ranging from law, medicine, and education, to entertainment, theology, and technology. Today, Theta Nu Xi has more than 2,000 initiated members, with over 42 undergraduate chapters and more than 28 graduate, alumnae, and professional chapters across the United States.

FAST FACTS

XI ZETA GAP CHAPTER HISTORY

In the Spring of 2003, three sisters from Florida State University's Lambda Chapter desired to start a Graduate, Alumnae, and Professional (GAP) Chapter in South Florida. These sisters felt that a chapter in the tri-county area could flourish greatly, just as the chapter had in Tallahassee, FL. Thus, Dawn Clouse and Susan LoBianco, both Lambda Chapter Founders, along with alumna Caryn Haywood founded the South Florida GAP Kaleidoscope (Formerly Colony) during the Summer of 2003. In the Fall of 2003, Nicole Taylor, Nadira Mathlin, and Joy "Niecy" Williams joined the kaleidoscope. On January 23, 2004, these six women achieved chapter status and became the Xenacious Xi Zeta GAP Chapter.

After being dormant for a few years, the chapter was moved to Southwest Florida and was reactivated by Shamia Alexander, Tiffany Hamann, Solaine Gerhard, Keisha Murray-Tavarez, Michelle Roman, Brenee Miller, Mariam Olupitan, and Latoya Roberts on April 12, 2017.

At the 2021 Southeast Regional Conference, the Florida GAP chapters were re-regionalized and the Xi Zeta GAP Chapter was moved back to Southeast Florida. On July 7, 2021, the chapter was reactivated by Ariana Olivero Rodríguez, LaTasha Golden, Jessica Grant, Samantha Arampatzis, and Margie Lee.
